Does CRC Tapco require me to sign a contract?
As a Managing General Agency, CRC Tapco does not require agency agreements, appoint agents, nor involve an agent-company relationship. CRC Tapco placements are solely brokerage transactions.
What type of license do I need to do business with CRC Tapco?
The type of license required to place coverage with a Surplus Lines Company varies by state. Most states require a valid Property and Casualty License as well as some form of Brokers License. If you are unsure of the requirements in your state, you should contact your Insurance Department for specific guidelines.
If I write non-admitted business through CRC Tapco, do I have to file the surplus lines taxes?
No. CRC Tapco is surplus lines licensed in all states in which we write and will make the tax filings for all premiums written through our company.
What commission does CRC Tapco pay?
Commission paid to our retail brokers varies with the product involved.
What types of coverage does CRC Tapco write?
We write Commercial Property Excess, Dwelling Fire, General Liability, Homeowners, Inland Marine, Liquor Liability, Personal Liability, Property, Umbrella, Vacant Builders Risk, and Wind Deductible Buy Back.
What companies does CRC Tapco represent?
CRC Tapco represents 20+ carriers. We deal with domestic and alien carriers, all carrying A.M. Best ratings of A or better.

Does CRC Tapco offer an account current billing arrangement for brokers?
CRC Tapco offers Direct Bill for personal lines renewals and options for commercial renewals. The majority of billing is on a "cash" basis, i.e. the net premium is submitted along with the application.
Does CRC Tapco direct bill insureds?
Yes. CRC Tapco offers direct bill on all renewals. Direct bill is mandatory for personal lines renewals and optional for commercial lines renewals. Copies of the renewal notice/bill are sent to agents and mortgagees as well. At this time CRC Tapco does not offer direct bill on new business, endorsement and audits.
Does my insured have to pay in full, or do you offer financing?
All CRC Tapco business is required to be paid in full at inception, but most annual premiums can be financed through AFCO and IPFS. CRC Tapco also gladly accept financed premiums through any finance company the insured may choose.
Will CRC Tapco accept an insured's check, or do I have to pay with my agency check?
While CRC Tapco prefers agency checks, we will accept an insured's check as a convenience to our customers.
What type of applications do you require?
Applications are required for every new account written through CRC Tapco. Most of the business we write can be submitted on Acord or comparable forms. Certain special programs require specific applications, which CRC Tapco provides. CRC Tapco also publishes many applications in house that tend to be more streamlined and easier to complete than traditional forms.

Will CRC Tapco provide me with applications?
Yes. Whenever an account is quoted or bound with CRC Tapco, the appropriate application is emailed along with the quote letter/binder invoice.
If my state requires a diligent search, declination affidavit or similar form, will CRC Tapco file the form on my behalf?
Yes. These forms are also attached to quote letters/binder invoice emails. CRC Tapco will file them to the appropriate state department.
How do I write a policy with CRC Tapco?
It's very simple. Call one of our underwriters when you need a quote. CRC Tapco quotes the majority of business by phone. All quotes from CRC Tapco are immediately emailed to your inbox. If you sell the quote, you can request a binder by:
- Calling CRC Tapco and entering the phone prompt to request a binder
- Email: TapcoBinders@crcgroup.com
Upon binding, CRC Tapco will email the required application, a completed finance agreement, any required state form and binder invoice to you.
How long does a CRC Tapco binder last?
Binders are good for 12 days from the effective date of coverage. Expired binders cannot be rebound.
Applications and premiums received after the binder period has expired must be underwritten again to determine acceptability.
Will I have binding authority?
As a Managing General Agency, CRC Tapco is not allowed to give brokers binding authority. All coverage bound must be done so by a CRC Tapco underwriter.
Who do I report claims to?
CRC Tapco has a full claims staff. All claims can be emailed to tapcoclaims@crctapco.com and reported directly to our home office in NC via fax 336.538.0094. The carrier involved, the size and type of claim, will determine whether CRC Tapco will adjust the claim in-house or forward it to the insurer for processing.
If my insured needs a certificate of insurance, can I issue it from my office?
CRC Tapco discourages brokers from issuing certificates on behalf of the carriers that we represent. We offer online COI issuance for informational purposes or add a certificate holder once the policy is issued. You may also send your request to tapcocois@crcgroup.com or by fax to

Does Tapco offer electronic policy delivery?
Yes, CRC Tapco can send policies to your email in an Adobe PDF format. We also offer downloads through IVANS
